How to lose weight effortlessly...

Lose Weight Effortlessly?  I thought we were supposed to work?

You ARE!  Don't get me wrong.
I'm all about hard work and even though Bootcamp is only 30-minutes and even though
it's pretty tough, when there is an easy solution, you might as well add it in there, right?
Now I'm not going to drag this out.  I'm going to be like Sasha Baron Cohen in Madagascar and cut to the chase... I won't waste any more of your time...  Life is short... Ok, here we go.  Are you ready?  Good.  Enough said.  Now onto the point...

Drinking Water Before Meals Boosts Weight Loss

You might say the exact same thing that I said to this one... "Yeah.  Fill up your belly with water before you eat and you won't be able to eat as much.  Duh."
This study was conducted over a 12-week period at a university (Virgina Tech. Study lead by Brenda Davy).
Here is the bottom line:
The group that drank 2 Cups of Water Before Eating lost 4.5 MORE Pounds.

So what does that mean for you?

The main thing that you can take away from this is to try and drink 2 cups of water before each of your meals this next week and see if you can keep that habit up.
The reason this may work and is a helpful thing is because most Americans are chronically dehydrated and mistake the "thirst" cue for "hunger" and this can help curve that a bit.  The other obvious reason is you may eat less.
The cool thing about this is that this technique alone can save you from buying weight loss pills and other products to help you lose weight because it's free and easy.  The study also showed that the group that lost the weight was able to keep this habit up and showed that by the end of the year maintained the weight loss and even lost another 1.5lbs!!!!
Very Cool.

YOU'RE FAT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BE SKINNY!!!???

WARNING:  There may offensive (non-curse words, of course) phraseology in this article but the intent is sincerely to change your life for the better. ~JB

What in the world am I saying here???  You're fat because you want to be skinny?  YUP.  That's right...

Let's dig a little deeper...

You want to lose weight, you get a personal trainer, you clean out your house of junk food, you start counting calories, let the race begin!

Well hold on.  Wait a second.  WHY are you doing this?  What is your Motivation?  Now I'm not going to get all 'Richard Simmons" on you but let me show you a phenomenon (and I can't think of a better way to describe this fascinating thing I see over and over again).

I have a client begin our SUPER FUN bootcamps (little plug, right =) and after opening up a little bit, them really becoming a part of the community, I learn a lot about this person.  To get to the point, THEY ALREADY KNOW EVERYTHING!
Well, what do you need me for??

"I need motivation!"  Do you really?  "Yes, I need someone to hold me accountable."

You know what I find here?  I can only keep someone as accountable as they want to be themselves.  What I mean by that is I have clients who, when they're not in the mood, just chalk it up to, "I'm stressed" or "I had a bad day," etc.

WELL GUESS WHAT!!!!  THOSE THINGS HAPPEN!!!  Bad days come, stressful situations arise, life goes on.  I'm not being insensitive but in order for me to truly help you I have to help you see something.  YOU'RE FAT BECAUSE YOU WANT TO BE SKINNY!  Or do I have that wrong??

Now you might be saying, "JB.  What you mean to say is that you're fat because you want to be.  Right?"  No.  I mean to say just what I said.  You're fat because you WANT TO be skinny.

I'm fat because I want to be skinny?? Still don't get it...

Here's what I mean before I say it so many times I get blue in the face or you fall asleep.

The MAIN CONTRIBUTING FACTOR to your weight gain, plateaus, belly fat, etc. is that you have FAT PERSON HABITS.

You need to write this one down!  FAT-PERSON HABITS.

When you decide that you need a change you take care of all of the external factors that you can delegate to someone else to be responsible for but the personal factors you're not dealing with.  In this way you "want to be skinny" but you're not "behaving like a skinny person".  When  you begin to take on habits and behaviors of "skinny people" you'll notice that your weight loss problems are a thing of the past!

This may sound oversimplified but it's not.  It really is THAT SIMPLE while at the same time EXTREMELY HARD.

The habits that you've developed have been engrained in you for years and now I'm asking you to change that.  Better than that, I'm asking you to NOTICE those habits.  That's all I want you to do for now.

In the next few days I think I need to stay on this topic so I'll be getting into the details of "Revealing the Secret Habits and Behaviors of Skinny People."

I don't mean to leave you hanging but just like I said before.  You probably already know everything and I'm not being a Smart A@# about that.  Begin to take a look at yourself and really observe Fat-People Behaviors that you have and take baby steps to Annihilating them!

Menopause Signs, Menopause Weight Gain, and Osteoporosis Enjoyable 'SOLUTION'!

Menopause Signs, Menopause Weight Gain, and OsteoporosisSymptoms...

are words you may be getting used to seeing and hearing from your doctor, the internet, and advertisements.
But ENJOYABLE SOLUTION???
How can that be???
Well, here is what is going on...

Causes and Solution to Menopausal Symptoms...
Here are a few things that lead to menopause:
- Drinking Dark Colas (I'll explain why in a moment)
- Lack of Proper Resistance on Bones (I'll explain that too =)
-  Genetics (Don't put too much weight on this one (kind of a pun on previous reason! haha.  But real)
When we're talking about drinking too much dark cola notice my words, "too much".  I'm obviously not a proponent of Sodas AT ALL and my mom definitely never let us get Kool-aid or made sodas a habit for our home but I do point out "too much" for  reason.
Just because something is healthy doesn't mean more is better and just because something is unhealthy it doesn't mean that a tad will kill you.  Balance is the key here and in the West that is a PIVOTAL #1 Problem of our culture.  We're extreme in everything.  Exercise, Diet, Pleasure, Ascetism, etc.  That simply won't work.  That being said, let me get off of the box of soap a bit and tell you simply why dark colas are a killer for your bones.
Drinking Dark Colas...
We've all heard that Coca-cola can dissolve the corrosion on your car battery.  Ok.  Well, you don't have to be an Exercise Physiologist (poking fun at myself =) to know that can't be good for a human.  Well, it's not.  In addition to that what about the "Dark" part of colas is so bad??  The "Phosphoric Acid."  That's the component in "Dark colas" that actually eats away at your bones.  Growing older and menopause are already going to do a job on your bones, they don't need your help by drinking this acid.
Lack of Proper Resistance... And FUN SOLUTION!
What this means in terms that you've heard before is, "Weight-Bearing Exercise."  That means get out and move.  It doesn't have to literally mean "Weight lifting in the gym" so much as it means, "Moving your own body around in a way that is challenging."  This can be as boring and horrible or as fun and exciting as you make it.  In my Bootcamps my whole point is to make it as fun as possible.  In my Boutique Bootcamps it's to make it fun, relaxing, and pampering as possible!  You can do the same thing where ever you are. Get involved in a program or group where you have accountability, have fun, and actually enjoy getting up and being active.
If you're already self-disciplined that's great but I'm a Physiologist and trainer and my exercise mostly comes when I'm training someone else!!  Even I need some motivation sometimes!  If I wouldn't be training people I'm not sure when I would get most of my movement in.  So... no one's above having fun in a crowd =)
Reason why 'Weight-Bearing Exercise is Important...
You're body was created to move.  it was created to lift things, lift yourself, help people, contribute to the world, etc. It was NOT created to sit for hours on end, not move, sleep all day, etc.  Our culture, sits and drives, sits and talks, sits and thinks, sits and types (uh oh, I better get up =), sits and watches movies, etc. etc.  All of these things ( in moderation remember =) are ok but you've got to keep a tab on them to moderate them.  You can look at the symptoms and problems of Menopause and Osteoporosis as a reminder to you that your life is NOT OVER and that you're just beginning!
The solution to these problems is movement, getting involved, laughing, DE-stressing, and helping people.  If you don't do these things your body continues to break down at a rapid pace. So maybe this whole thing is a helper to you.  Use your body for what it is here for and it'll continue to keep working for you in a way that you want it to work.  If you don't give it something to work for then it says, "See ya later, I'm done."
On a more physiological note, weight-bearing exercise pushes and pulls on your bones. When they receive this activity, signal, etc. it slowly but surely has to strengthen in order to not break or tear.  If you walk with bare feet on cement day in and day out your feet will get harder.  The same thing is happening with your bones but this time you WANT them to get harder/firmer.  The "walking" in this example is the exercise and the "cement" in this example, doing the hardening, is the resistance.  The resistance can be your own body weight or weights.  I don't recommend the gym and the weight room because of all of the sitting going on in there and that's why our boot camps are body weight and Russian Kettlebell focused.  That being said, if you can't find a bootcamp like that then you can email me and I can try to find you one in  your area that would be good for you or if all you have is  a gym then it is certainly better than nothing.
Genetics.  The ultimate culprit...or Not?
I may get a lot of flack for this but I've got to be honest with you here.  Compared to your lifestyle, your choices, your activity, and your mindset, your genetics will make up about 10% of your outcome.  If that were not the case then you would not have much choice and you would just be a victim.  MOST PEOPLE want to be a victim because it takes the responsibility out of their hands and they now have an excuse to be lazy (I know this may be offensive but this is the truth and someone needs to say this).  Whether our faithful scientists prove it or not, the correlation between genetic simliarities of children and parents also includes the fact that children will live, act, and respond in a simliar way their parents did or the way they were taught.
That being said....
There ARE legitimate cases where genetics or life just happened to deal a hand where you're doing everything right but you're still having pains, weight gains, etc.  In those situations it's still important to not become a victim because that IN NO WAY is going to help your situation.  However, if you look for the ways that you yourself CAN make a positive change on the factors that you can control it will give you a feeling of accomplishment, success, and have more likely of a chance to actually work on  your physical body
So, keep genetics in mind as far as taking a look at habits that may have been passed down and see what you can do to make sure you incorporate good habits and then keep up with your good actions to keep the Bad ol' Osteo Monster away.
Tough Love and Relaxation for Your Bones...
I mentioned this a bit earlier but if you're in Dallas or you want to come to Dallas, TX I have a Bootcamp Boutiqueand a Fun Bootcamp that you're more than welcome to come and visit and participate with our community.
The goal of the Bootcamp Boutique is to provide pampering and relaxation because Stress is a HUGE contributor to Weight Gain, Fat Retention, Osteoporosis, and general weakening of the bones.  So... if we can remove that we can substantially increase the ability to lose weight and lose fat.
Also, we incorporate our Bootcamp exercises.  Our tough love.  We definitely have a a great time but it'll definitely also make you sweat!  It's intense and it's only 30-minutes so you don't have to sacrifice your day for it.  Studies have shown for years that taking it up a notch is better than staying in the gym all day anyways.  We've only got 12 spots left so let us know as soon as you're able!
I hope this helped you and answered a few questions.  Stay posted for more on this topic and more ways to get through "Stubborn Fat" and "Plateaus".

Menopausal Weight Gain – How to stop “Middle-Age Spread”

Menopausal Weight Gain! I want my body back!Menopausal weight gain... Let's talk about this.  What seems to be happening to your body aroundyour 40's and 50's and even "pre" menopausal seems to be largely overlooked.  The infamous "middle-age spread" is the talk of the town amongst yourselves but what is everyone else saying?
I was on the Mayo Clinic site just yesterday and was reading about the "official" comments on weight gain in menopausal patients and I was not surprised to see the extremely "deep" explanations for the culprit.
Here they are:
1.  Eating more
2.  Working out less
3.  Eating less healthy foods
Wow.  Is that not a huge revalation or what???
I was shocked to see that THIS is the answer that is supposed to calm your nerves about what is happening with your bodies.
I definitely agree that these things may be the culprit but what if you're already doing all of these things?  What if you've already cut all of the calories you could possibly cut before you begin starving yourself?  If you're already the ideal eater and your diet is spot on let's talk about this a little more in detail.
How to stop middle age spread dead in it's tracks!
Here is the meat and potatoes of this article.
One of the best pieces of advice I've ever received on this topic was and is in the area of eating colors.  Focus on eating blues, greens, reds, purples, yellows, etc. instead of beige, browns, sand, etc.
This means to focus on the fruits and the veggies and even fish but to be careful with potatoes, breads, starches, etc.
I used to not be a big proponent of this at all because I still say, "If G-d made it you're good to go!"  However,  if you've been keeping up with the food industry you'll notice that it is a fact that of the hundreds of species of tomatooes just 50 years ago are now only 3-4 in the grocery stores and that corn is so bioengineered that within the cells of the corn there are antibacteria being used as "markers" that you can not help but ingest.  My point is that the food that G-d made is not always food that was made by Him anymore.  Man has  woven his beautiful little fingers into that area as well.
So...  What does that mean?
It simply means that it IS a legitimate concept to stay away from certain breads and grains even though they may be natural (at least wheat and potatoes and some corn) because what may be causing the allergy or weight gain could actually be a biochemical reaction to the engineered food and by getting back to foods that are less likely to be tampered with as well as having life-giving colors that could help with your hormones to work more in favor with your body again!!
You can have your body back!
This means that the gate to getting your body back is closer than you think =)
If you can begin to incorporate these little tid bits and then also add exercise to this little change you can turbo-charge your progress and shorten the time to getting back into the outfits you thought you had to throw away.
If you'd like help with the exercise part come on out to our Female-Friendly Boot Camps and have fun and lose the weight too.  Our Rapid Fat Loss program is only 30-minutes a day so you won't dread it and with other women so you've got your support and community.
